In 2005, The May Department Stores Company merged with Federated Department Stores. The Hecht's division was eliminated and the former Hecht's stores are now operated by Federated's Macy's South division.

Hecht's The Streets at Southpoint converted to Macy's in September 2006.

  1. Great pictures! I love how that Hecht's sign in the foreground complicates the whole thing haha. I can't think of another Hecht's either with a similiar situation, i thought of crabtree for some reason though.

  2. I see what you're saying. Crabtree Valley Mall has a number of small Hecht's logo signs and at leat two large ones int their mall that need to be changed. None of them are as big as that one at Southpoint though.

  5. It does sound sort of phlegm-inducing when you first say it, but you get used to it. :-)

  6. My money's on them taking the sign down and filling in the holes where it used to be with spackle......

  7. Possibly, but I think there's something in the operating agreements for the department stores at Southpoint that requires those large signs at the mall entrances. All five anchors have them.
