Located adjacent to SouthPark, this development will include 150 premiere residential units located above 48,000 square feet of ground level, high-end retail anchored by a two-level, 37,000 square foot Crate & Barrel.

The Village at SouthPark is at the forefront of a new trend in higher-density quasi-urban living, combining luxury housing with close proximity to retail establishments and restaurants.

  1. Instant city, just add people? Seems out of place in suburbia, or is that just the artist's rendering?
Looks like a traffic nightmare. A cul-de-sac in a high-density development? Wonder how they'll keep the resident's visitors from parking all day in front of the stores.
What's your take on this development?

  2. The Village at SouthPark is on land that used to be a large green space in front of a Dillard's store. It's a dramatic change from before, and it's substantially more urban that SouthPark mall is now.

Still, just about everything surrounding the mall and this new center is dense and urban these days, so it's not as hard an adjustment as it might seem from the renderings.

The vehicular traffic they show won't be that heavy. It's connected by walkways to the mall's parking decks, so a lot of people will come there on foot from the parking lots.

I think it's overall a good step forward. the housing takes advantage of the superior location and the new shop space will house some coll stores that aren't already there, like Crate & Barrel.

  3. That's some pretty fancy building there. Reminds me of that new North Elm Village in Greensboro.

  5. Billy: Yeah, this'll be a nice development. I haven't seen North Elm Village yet, but I haven't been to Greensboro as much as I usually do.

Cantnot: I got the renderings form SouthPark magazine, and they showed up on Simon's website about the same time.
