This Dillards could use an extensive refurbishment! How many levels does it have?
ReplyDeleteI've only been to BSM once, but it seemed like one of those "why is it even here?" malls after seeing Asheville Mall.
ReplyDeleteNitek: That's a pretty small store, if my facts are right. I think it's 65,000 square feet on a single level. There used to be one just like it at New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg, Va. that was identical.
ReplyDeleteBut it definately needs a little TLC. Considering it's attached to a dead mall, it's unlikely anything more than basic maintenence will happen anytime soon, though.
Todd: Time has shown that this mall was a mistake. I've heard the inside was dead as can be. It's a wonder both Belk and Dillard's are still there.
Only 65k square feet? That reminds me of the freestanding Jubilee Square Dillards (former Gayfers) in Daphne, Al.
ReplyDeleteYep. It's pretty small. I think the idea was to have as many department choices as possible at Biltmore Square, which meant all the stores were a little smaller than they should have been to compensate.
ReplyDeletePerhaps this shopping center could be transformed into an open-air regional center, anchored by a stadium seat multiplex and a cluster of upscale restaurants.
ReplyDeleteBiltmore Town Centre?
The Shoppes at Biltmore Square?
A lifestyle center would be a great fit for the demographic near biltmore Square, but I don't know if there's an interest in making it happen.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this shopping center was pretty dead inside, only the anchors seemed to have business. The Dillard's is indeed one level only... I agree an open-air concept could work, the whole mall needs to be recasted.
