One of my favorite stores ever, hands down.
ReplyDeleteI thought about that when I posted these :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the more subtly designed store I knew of. Too bad it's gone.
All I can say about these pictures is-WOW!!! Anymore from this group waiting to be posted? Thanks foir these!
ReplyDeleteThose are the only two really good Sears SouthPark shots I have, but check back for more Belk SouthPark pics! :-)
ReplyDeleteSears closed a store? What happened?
ReplyDeleteThe signage on this building is interesting. I've never seen one like it.

The official reason Sears SouthPark closed was underperforming sales. But it was largely a case of them getting pushed out in favor of more upscale tenants. On the Sears site, there is now Urban Outfitters, California Pizza Kitchen, Dick's Sporting Goods, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Morton's Steakhouse, and McCormick & Schmick's
ReplyDeleteI need to find the detail picture of how the building walls were configured. They were set back and slanted, like a set of vertical blinds. Each of the store's letters was on its own 'slat.' It was a cool store up close.
I really like how the Sears letters on the wall of this store look. I think I also see what you're saying about how the walls of this Sears store looked, though it's too bad you can't really tell it was designed like that from the 2 pics you have of it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe eventually, you can find some closer-up pics of this store's exterior, that better illustrate what you were saying about its exterior.

I do actually have a close-up photo of Sears' façade, though it's not of the entrance. I caught a piece of it in a shot of one of the rear mall entrances (Morrison’s Cafeteria side, if you’re keeping score at home). I’ll have to scan it sometime. It’s a perfect illustration of the stepped brickwork.
