Wow I love that Penneys entrance!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, that store stayed pretty much the same from 1974 until 1997, when they did a major renovation. Even when JCPenney remodeled the whole chain in the early '80s, this place got a paint job and new carpet. That's it.
ReplyDeleteThat storefront caught my eye for second...it's made of brick!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a mall with a brick store front in years since my local Waterbury,CT was demolished not that long ago.
I'm curious what the rest of the mall looks like,is there any other pictures of this place you might know of?
looks unfortunately like it's struggling to me,how long was it successful until things went downhill?
I'm glad you like the storefront, because it was pretty slick, but unfortunately it doesn't look much like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteWhen they did a renovation on the store in 1998, the brick got covered up with beige marble.
If you click on the links on the page, you can go to some more modern pictures of the place, which thankfully isn't struggling at all.
I had forgotten about that brick styling the JCPenney Four Seasons store had. I want to say the JCPenney bricks matches the mall's exterior bricks.
ReplyDeleteThe bricks on the mall entrance did match the ones on the exterior. In fact, all three of of the bigger department stores at Four Seasons used to have brick-accented mall entrances.
ReplyDeleteSay, is JC Penney ever gonna get a third floor? Doesn't it seem a bit interesting that Four Seasons has a big empty wall where an anchor could be? I have never seen a JC Penney with more than 2 floors.
ReplyDeleteIt's doubtful that store will grow to a third level. They already have the largest Penney's in the Carolinas as it is.
ReplyDeleteJCPenney doesn't do many 3-level stores. I saw one in Ohio and another at Tysons Corner Center that were, but the latter was a conversion from Woodward & Lothrop and subsequently closed because it was too big.
Well, would they put something else on the third floor? Like a Best Buy or something?
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that something will happen upstairs eventually, but it probably won't be a big box store.
