  1. That's actually not a secondary entrance, its the entrance to their men's store. They have two separate stores at the mall, though they are right next to each other and have identical designs. Not sure why that is the case or if one used to be something else. That doesn't seem likely since they both look like origional Belk designs.

This is a store I mentioned some months back as having one of those tile murals under the canopy, I'll try to get a picture when I head over there in May.

  2. Good to know about the men's store. I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to go into Belk's itself.

  3. I've always found the set up there odd, since it doesn't seem that the other Belk has ever been anything else, and they both have identical 80's Belk-Hudson style outside appearances. I just wonder why they didn't build one big store. Or why they never bothered to connect the two since they sit right next to each other.

  4. Fixed the error. Thanks guys.

Brian: The men's store entrance looks newer. It probably was another department store like Peebles or Watson's before it was Belk.

  5. The interior entrance looks newer, but the outside facades are identical. At some point I found an article about Briarcliffe Mall's opening, and it only listed Belk-Hudson, JCPenney and KMart as anchors. The KMart was demolished for a Bass Pro shops several years ago.

  6. I notice there's no signs that tell which Belk store is which, unlike Crabtree. Whichever store has the children's and housewares department was probably there first. The other may have been a Montgomery Ward or something.

  7. Brian: Still, it'd be unusual for Belk to take both the center court and end spaces from the get go.

Jake: Your Belk logic is correct, but I don't think the secondary Belk was a Wards at any point.

  8. I'm leaning toward some kind of smallish department store chain like Peebles or Watson's.

  9. I think the Belk's on the rear of the mall has been a Dillards at one point.

  10. The Belk East (ladies) building was opened as the original building built 26 years ago and the north (men's) building was built 10 years later. They have always been branded as Belk although the name of the mall has changed. The east building underwent a multi-million f=dollar renovation in 2011.
