I've heard Barney's CO-OP is coming to Atlanta, but Barney's doesn't feel Atlanta is ready for a full fledged Barney's department store.
Matt, most of my Barney's knowledge is from "Will and Grace", but I do know it to be one of the most exclusive department store chains, probably only Bergdorf-Goodman would be more exclusive in the US. Bergdorf's is actually the high-end subsidiary of Nieman-Marcus, if that gives some perspective. I think a Barney's CO-OP is more along the lines of a junior department store than an outlet, I'm sure Steven knows better. I think the emphasis in on men's clothing, at least it was in Barney's early days and the CO-OP retains that flavor. Barney's didn't become a department store in the sense it is until the 1970's.
Ken: You're right, Barneys CO-OP is a junior department store, and Barneys New York is more like a full-line store, though it didn't reach that status until the '70s.
There is a Barneys CO-OP at Phipps Plaza, and I hear a full-line store may open in the Streets at Buckhead development in Atlanta.
I imagine this is a pretty swanky part of town--judging by the cool Barney's and also the Cartier store.
ReplyDeleteFor years Chevy Chase had the most takeout restaurants of any city in the country.
Chevy Chase is very cool. Even the air tastes different than the rest of town.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a Barney's CO-OP? Is that their version of an outlet store?

It's a youth-oriented version of Barneys that tends to be more trendy and often a little cheaper.
