Interesting pics of this JCPenney. Looking at these made me start to regret again a bit that I never got around to getting any pics of the JCPenney store at Eastland Mall(in Bloomington, IL).
ReplyDeleteIt's not the most unique looking JCPenney I've seen of their stores, but I like the exterior of that store for some reason. Maybe one day I'll be able to return to Bloomington, IL, and be able to swing by Eastland Mall to photograph it.
Looking at these pictures again, I'm almost willing to bet $20 that the entrances used to all look like the one for the catalog & salon...
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a larger version of the original JCPenney store anchoring Village Mall in Auburn, AL. It was demolished for a larger store and mall expansion project in spring 2005.
ReplyDeleteAllan: There used to be a site called Le Centre that had a picture of that store. it's not a bad looking Penney's.
ReplyDeleteMatt: I figure that the old entrances looked that way, too, though it was an unusual design for a JCPenney of that vintage.
Nitek: JCPenney used a lot of prototypes over and over, so the resemblance was likely intentional.
Steven: I'm aware of the site Le Centre, and I'd almost forgotten they did have a photo of the Eastland Mall JCPenney. It's too bad if that site isn't up anymore, since it was a decent site to look up pics of (pics were mostly taken in the Midwest) chain stores.
ReplyDeleteThat aside, I do like the look of the Concord Mall JCPenney store. Interior isn't bad, but I've seen JCPenneys that've had more interesting of an interior mall entrance, IMHO.

Allan: Le Centre is still around (http://www.angelfire.com/rnb/lecentre/) and is still being updated.
ReplyDeleteThe Concord JCPenney is pretty standard. Not a standout mall entrance, but not horrible. Marble is always a nice touch.
When was this mall built? It looks anywhere from 1978-1996 based on different design elements.
ReplyDelete1973. The mall was extensively renovated and expanded in 1996. You were very close :-)
