mall and department store photography bordering on the obsessive.
I think this might very well be the most boring...excuse me, most non-offensive...store exterior I've ever seen...
ReplyDeleteYep, kinda boring. This was not JCPenney's most informed design period. But after the sheer gaudiness of some of their early '70s designs, it may have been time for a break.
ReplyDeleteI think this design was better executed at Georgia Square Mall in Athens, GA. (see Georgia Retail Memories for what I mean, and IMO the best execution of this design I've seen) Just my opinion, though.
ReplyDeleteAgree with both of you that it isn't JCP's best design, but at other malls where I've seen it, it isn't totally bad. The planters on both sides are interesting, though.

The Georgia Square store is a little nicer, I agree, but there weren't many two level versions of this design. That one and the Mall of Memphis store were the only ones I've seen.
ReplyDeleteI think the one at Haywood Mall is similar to that.
ReplyDeleteIt's from the same era, so I wouldn't doubt it is almost identiacal.
