A very unique exterior sign. I would love to see how it looked when it was a Gimbel's--perhaps the large black backing would make more sense.
ReplyDeleteThe Gimbels logo probably looked really nice on this store. The design is thoroughly 1970s, but striking in its own way.
ReplyDeleteNice looking Sears. Since so many Sears were of similar color brick in the 1970;s, if you hadn't had mentioned it was originally Gimbel's I would have assumed it was a one off Sears design. Certainly better than the plain box mall anchors that become commonplace later in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Sears would have done the tower, but then again, maybe they would have. It's an odd but neat touch.
