  1. I still am trying to get used to that flower thing....to me it is an unnecessary distraction, although I do realize Belk is following in the footsteps of Macy's with their star and Wal-Mart with their flower thing...I still wish they could have retained "Hudson Belk", I know some folks in the Triangle feel as if they lost a piece of history when "Hudson" was removed from the stores.

  2. Brian: I tend to agree. The logo looks friendlier on the mall entrance, but fails on the exterior.

Anon: I think Hudson Belk was a goner regardless of the logo decision. it's great heritage, but in this focus-grouped to death retail world, it didn't stand a chance.

  3. I like the detail around the mall entrance of the store...the white arched areas are pretty cool....also love the escalator well area

  4. I like the mall entrance, too. There are a number of visual cues that suggest that Belk studied Marshall Field & Company's early '70s suburban stores for inspiration, but the dark brick arches, coach lamps and porticoes make it Belk.

  5. We recently moved back to the Upstate and were at Haywood Mall last night. About that new logo - I think I like it. My wife, who could care less about logos and things, said it was 'crisp." Outside, it was alrger and looked better. Too small, and it looks sad. That blue flower looks to me like a modern version of the old tangled cirlce web in the big B. Modern, like the new Southern woman!

  6. Well. It's different. I can see it working better on one of the newer stores than on the classic 1970s stores, particularly the more elegant locations like Hanes Mall.

  7. Todd: It's been well-received, and i can see the Belk car6oucje in the flower, but I keep seeing "Bloomingdale's ripoff" when I look at it.

James: On the newer stores it does look okay, but this is the wrong kind of '70s logo for the '70s stores.
